Bay Area Health Officers Urge Covid Precautions Amid Rising Cases

Local health officers on Friday urged residents to ramp up Covid precautions in the face of rising cases brought on by Omicron subvariants.

San Francisco entered the yellow “medium” tier of Covid risk last week and has the highest rate of cases in the state. And, due to at-home tests, actual rates are higher, officials said.

Residents are advised to mask indoors, stay up to date on vaccine boosters when eligible and keep tests handy. (Health plans must reimburse eight over-the-counter Covid tests per person, per month.) Masks are “strongly recommended” for indoor settings, though mostly not required.

Bay Area health officers also encourage residents to get tested after potential exposures and to hold any large gatherings outdoors or in well-ventilated areas.
