Sacramento is investigating a possible case of the monkeypox virus in someone who traveled recently to Europe. Confirmation from the CDC is still pending, the Sacramento County Division of Public Health reported.
The individual is quarantining at home, and Sacramento’s Health Department said that “risk to the general public is very minimal,” stressing that monkeypox cases in the U.S. are extremely rare.
“This case appears to be related to recent travel to Europe,” said Dr. Olivia Kasirye, Sacramento County Public Health Officer. “Public Health is working with CDPH to conduct contact tracing, and risk to the general public is extremely low.”
