Early Friday morning, the Supreme Court released its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This ruling ends 50 years of federal abortion rights.
San Franciscans, including Mayor London Breed, voiced their dissent following the ruling.
“This decision is devastating for women and our country. San Francisco will continue to proudly protect women’s health and fundamental right to choose,” Breed tweeted.
Protests and activations have been planned across the city, and we’ve compiled a list below. Many of them are taking place Friday afternoon and evening, originating in varying locations across the city.

Ferry Building | 4 - 6 p.m.
If you find yourself heading towards BART on Embarcadero after a heavy day at work, consider exercising your freedom of assembly to protest for the right to choose. The march will follow a route just under two miles, beginning at the Ferry Building and ending at City Hall, where protests from across San Francisco will join together.
Phillip Burton Federal Building | 5 p.m.
The National Mobilization for Reproductive Justice-SF calls on those in the San Fracisco Bay Area to come together today and Satruday to rally for legal abortions. Find community and voice your concerns during this demonstration that will begin at the Phillip Burton Federal Building and culminate with a march.
Powell and Market St. | 5 p.m.
Powell and Market, one of the most trafficked intersections in the city, will fill with signs and community members as the Party for Socialism and Liberation demonstrates against the Supreme Court's ruling.
San Francisco City Hall | 5 p.m.
Founded before the first-ever ruling of Roe v. Wade, Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit ogranization that provides sexual health aid to women. The San Francisco branch plans to meet at the San Francisco City Hall to voice their support for more abortion access. You can register online before attending, masks and social distancing is encouraged.
Federal Building & U.S. Courthouse | 5 p.m.
Rise Up 4 Abortion Rights is holding protests nationwide. In San Francisco, they plan to meet at the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse and encourage everyone to wear green and use #Green4Abortion on signs. Green is considered the international sign for abortion rights.

Manny's will host an open mic night where many will have the opportunity to share any experience they have had with abortion or supporting someone through an abortion. Manny’s hopes to give a moment for you to share your story and find community from those in attendance.

The Commonwealth Club, 110 The Embarcadero

The Commonwealth Club will host abortion rights leaders Gilda Gonzales, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Northern California, Buffy Wicks, California State Assemblymember (District 15), and Sylvia Ghazarian, executive director of the Women's Reproductive Rights Assistance Project in a conversation focused on the financial barriers women may face and how California can ensure people continue to have access to reproductive rights.
This conversation will be followed by the screening of the film The Janes, a film that premiered on HBO earlier this month based on the women who provided illegal, underground free abortion to women in the pre-Roe v. Wade era.
Tickets start at $25 for non-members of The Commonwealth Club, you can also join for a free online screening of the film.
