A man was shot Monday in San Francisco's Bayview at around 12:18 p.m., police said.

San Francisco police officers assigned to Bayview Station responded to a report of a shooting on the 4400 block of Third Street.

Officers found an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers gave him medical aid and called medics to the scene, who transported the victim to the hospital for life-threatening injuries.

"Despite the lifesaving efforts of the medical staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital," an SFPD spokesperson said in a press release.

Investigators from the San Francisco Police Homicide Detail responded to the scene and have taken over the investigation.
