The San Francisco Standard is a fast-growing news organization that provides news coverage to its readers. We are seeking a Full-Stack Software Engineer to join our dynamic and innovative team.
As a Full-Stack Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our website and web applications. You will work closely with our product, design, and editorial teams to ensure that our platform is fast, reliable, and user-friendly alongside other engineers.
- Design and develop web applications and features that align with the company’s vision and strategy.
- Collaborate with product, design, and editorial teams to implement new features and improvements to the website and our publishing backend.
- Build and maintain the website’s infrastructure, including databases, APIs, and servers.
- Optimize website performance and implement best practices for security and data protection.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure the quality and functionality of the software.
- Keep up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in full-stack development.
- Mentor and train junior developers on the team.
- Establish best practices and conventions as needed to balance speed and quality.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in full-stack web development.
- Experience with modern front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
- Experience with backend frameworks such as Laravel, Django, or Ruby on Rails.
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with cross-platform mobile application development (e.g. Expo) is a plus
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Passion for news, journalism, and the role of technology in the media industry.

Salary Range: $130,000 – $190,000
