SF Standard is seeking an entry-level editorial researcher to support its reporters and editors on day-to-day reporting and long-term projects. We are a startup company developing innovative approaches to delivering local news and information, serving everyone who has a stake in the future of San Francisco.
The researcher will have an opportunity to be in on the ground floor and help shape a next-generation local news business by working with veteran reporters and editors on metro news, data journalism, and other editorial efforts in a fast-paced, growing newsroom.
The researcher will primarily be compiling information to support other reporters by conducting online searches, reviewing reports, and sifting through spreadsheets. The findings will be shared in articles, charts, tables, maps, indicators and news stories. This position will be a stepping stone for moving into other editorial positions at The Standard.
The right candidate will have a strong desire to learn, an ability to work as part of a team, keen attention-to-detail, spreadsheet skills, numerical accuracy, excellent writing skills, an ability to work independently, an interest in civic affairs, and an in-depth knowledge of San Francisco.
A four-year degree in journalism or a related field is preferred. Experience with WordPress, chart-making applications, and public policy matters is a plus.
The role requires physical presence in San Francisco, and we expect to be a largely in-office company, Covid permitting. We offer very competitive salaries and excellent benefits.
Interested candidates are asked to submit an application with our resume, three clips, and a short letter setting out why you want this job.
