Reader Submission Terms

By submitting your Reader Submission Content (as defined below) to The San Francisco Standard (“SF Standard” or “us“) you agree that you have read, understood and accepted the following terms in related to anything you share with us in the form of Reader Submission Content. We will review all submissions we receive but may not be able to respond to all of them. If we have follow up questions, we reserve the right to reach out to you. 

Please review all terms, conditions and instructions carefully. By submitting your Reader Submission Content you agree that such content is truthful, not misleading, and is related to and relies upon your own knowledge. We make no representations or guarantees about any aspect of the Reader Submission Content and do not endorse any opinions expressed by you or any users. ALL SUCH CONTENT IS PUBLISHED “AS IS” AND YOUR SUBMISSION, USE OR RELIANCE ON ANY SUCH CONTENT IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. WE HAVE NO LIABILITY TO YOU FOR THE CONSEQUENCES OF USING OR RELYING ON ANY SUCH CONTENT.

Additionally, please note that by submitting any Reader Submission Content to us you are agreeing to be subject to our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy (collectively, “Agreements“) which are incorporated herein by reference at all times. Any terms not defined here are to be interpreted according to the definition given to them in the Agreements.

License. Anything you post, upload, share or otherwise provide here, including but not limited to all intellectual property rights in your name, likeness, voice, images, and written content is your “Reader Submission Content“. You hereby do and shall grant SF Standard a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free, fully paid, sublicensable and transferable license to use, edit, modify, truncate, aggregate, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, perform, and otherwise fully exploit the Reader Submission Content in connection with this site, the Services and our (and our successors’ and assigns’) businesses, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of this site or the Services (and derivative works thereof) in any media formats and through any media channels now known or developed in the future (including, without limitation, third party websites and feeds), and including after your termination of your account (if any) or the Services. For all Reader Submission Content, you further hereby grant SF Standard a license to translate, modify (for technical purposes, for example, making sure your content is viewable on a mobile device as well as a computer) and reproduce and otherwise act with respect to such Reader Submission Content, in each case to enable us to operate the Services. You agree that the licenses you grant are royalty-free, perpetual, sublicensable, irrevocable, and worldwide. 

Right to Publish; Anonymity. Reader Submission Content may be published by us or be viewable by other users in another manner. If you wish to remain anonymous please inform us at the time of submission and while we respect your desire to stay anonymous, and will do our best to retain anonymity by use of applicable tools, you should note that none of these tools are always foolproof. You are solely responsible for all Reader Submission Content you contribute to the Services.  

Representations and Warranties. You represent and warrant that (i) all Reader Submission Content submitted by you is accurate, complete, up-to-date, and in compliance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations; (ii) you have all rights to such Reader Submission Content and grant such licenses to us without infringement or violation of any third party rights, including without limitation, any privacy rights, publicity rights, copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property or proprietary rights; (iii) Your Reader Submission Content is not false or libelous and does not infringe the privacy, data protection or confidentiality rights of any third party; (iv) Your Reader Submission Content does not plagiarize or otherwise infringe any third party copyright, moral rights or any other intellectual property rights or similar rights. For example, you must not submit to us any photos, drawings or any recordings of any type unless you are the copyright owner or have the relevant consent of the copyright owner; (v) Your Reader Submission Content does not impersonate anyone else or otherwise misrepresents your identity, affiliation or status; and (vi) Your Reader Submission Content does not amount to commercial speech or advertising or amount to an investigation by you and you have clearly and truthfully disclosed your interests in the subject matter (including any potential or actual conflicts of interest).

Privacy Rights. In order to display the Reader Submission Content or any related information on the Services, and to allow other users to view them (where applicable), you grant us certain rights in such Reader Submission Content. Please note that all of the following licenses are subject to our Privacy Policy to the extent they relate to Reader Submission Content that is also your personally-identifiable information, like your email address and any other contact details.

Changes. You understand and agree that SF Standard, in performing the required technical steps to provide the Services to our users (including you), may need to make changes to your Reader Submission Content to conform and adapt the Reader Submission Content to the technical requirements of connection networks, devices, services, or media, and the foregoing licenses include the rights to do so. While we are not obliged to do so and irrespective of publication, we may edit, add to, remove or otherwise amend the Reader Submission Content (or any part of it) in any way as we see fit in our sole discretion for journalistic purposes (for example without limitation we may edit the Reader Submission Content for length and style and/or use it for or incorporate it in other stories).
