The fund California uses to pay unemployment benefits is already more than $18 billion in debt.

Starting on Jan. 1, the typical PG&E electricity and gas customer will see their rates rise about $34.50—13%—compared with current bills.

In a letter, California housing officials warned the Board of Supervisors to pass a key housing reform bill as originally proposed. 

“This is not a policy discussion. This is a political discussion,” said Supervisor Aaron Peskin during Tuesday’s vote.
