Ocean Beach is a natural favorite for dog owners and their furry friends, but this Saturday it was busier than usual as hundreds of corgis and their humans descended on the sandy beach for San Francisco’s biannual Corgi Con.
The event, which hasn’t happened since 2019 due to the pandemic, featured hours of family-friendly programming including a costume competition, race, “attempt at group photo,” and of course many woofs and belly scratches.
There was no shortage of corgis in costumes, ranging from a pup named Sicily dressed up as a NASA astronaut to another named Bánh Mì attending as the Pride rainbow flag.
For Lixin Wang, Corgi Con was what inspired her to get her corgi, Stanley, in the first place.
“Corgis are such big-personality dogs,” said Wang. “They are super cute with their little butts on their stumpy little legs.”
Wang said Stanley, who attended Saturday’s event dressed as a SpaceX rocket, is good at looking for food and getting attention.
If you missed Saturday’s event, Corgi Con will be back in San Francisco in the fall.
