Living on San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Island is something of a novelty. Residents of the Bristol, a luxury apartment building, are some of the first folks to call the 0.9-square-mile speck of land home since about 100 tenants were evicted from former naval housing in <a href="https://www.sfgate.com/local/article/yerba-buena-island-residents-evicted-17355407.php" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">2015</a>. But why did they choose to spend more than $1 million to live on an island that doesn’t even have a grocery store?

There are plans for more units in the near future, according to Compass Senior Managing Director Krysen Heathwood, who is selling the building’s homes.
