According to a GoFundMe page, the swimmer was assaulted, robbed and had his car stolen after parking behind the Maritime Museum in Fort Mason.

The pier needs to be completely rebuilt to the tune of $100 million or more, according to the National Park Service.

After a recent earthquake, the pier was deemed structurally unsound. 

Experts and longtime swimmers alike say they’ve never seen a bay bloom this big before—and the coming warm weather could make matters even worse.
