School may be out for the summer but kids still need to eat.
Starting this week, San Francisco Unified School District is offering free meals at over 50 sites until mid-to-late-July, depending on the location. Breakfast and lunch is free for all children 18 and under, as well as any SFUSD student regardless of age.
Meals are served individually and include an entree, fresh fruit, vegetables and the option of milk. They must be eaten on site.
After the summer, some schools will see kitchen upgrades and fresher meals. SFUSD’s Student Nutrition Services is the largest food provider in the city, according to the district.
