Two busy BART stations were forced to close during rush hour Tuesday morning.

BART blamed staffing issues for the closure of Antioch and Pittsburg Center stations from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

BART has since apologized for the incident, which it described as "unexpected."

BART spokesperson Alicia Trost said: "This was specific to the BART to Antioch Control Center staffing. It impacted Antioch and Pittsburg Center. We tried to bring in back up staff to no avail. It was unexpected, and we are very sorry for the disruption."

The Standard asked BART if the issues would likely continue for the rest of the week, but did not receive an answer.

Both stations have since reopened.
