An inmate being held in San Francisco County Jail died Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency, according to authorities.

The man died at County Jail No. 2, a facility in South of Market, despite efforts to perform life-saving measures, according to the Sheriff's Office. He was identified by the Chief Medical Examiner's Office the following day as Jorge Macay, 41.

Officials said they don't know where Macay lived. He had been under medical supervision since being booked, the sheriff said.

Jail records show Macay was booked Sunday on a parole violation and on charges of domestic violence and child endangerment.

No further details have been released.
