Body found near Pier 39 in San Francisco

San Francisco police and firefighters responded Thursday to a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and a Muni bus near Van Ness Avenue and O'Farrell Street.

A person was found dead in the water near Pier 39 in San Francisco on Saturday night, according to police. Authorities did not immediately release the person’s identity, but described the victim as Black and female. Officials also have not yet released the cause of death.

At about 6:20 p.m., officers received a call about a body in the water, Sgt. Adam Lobsinger said in a statement. A San Francisco Fire Department boat crew retrieved the body, and officials pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The SF Chief Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the person’s identity, police said. The incident is still under investigation.

SFFD and the medical examiner’s office did not respond to requests for comment by publication time.
