San Francisco police have invited the public to comment on one of its most visible markers of public presence—its uniforms.

Starting this week ,and for the next four, residents and visitors can weigh in on San Francisco Police Department’s draft general order on uniforms, which covers everything from standards for dress events (SFPD hat pins, black necktie, gloves) to mounted unit gear (shined black boots and navy breeches) and tactical outfits (ballistic vest, blue or black undershirt, optional American flag pin).

Anyone can see detailed descriptions of the proposed uniforms by visiting the department’s website and looking under its policies section. Members of the public can weigh in with comments at this address.

The SFPD is seeking public comment on a variety of issues including service weapon protocols to the use of social media in criminal investigations.
