A new restaurant on the first floor of a boutique hotel offers casual diners in Downtown San Francisco a ’60s vibe.
PLS on Post—short for Peace Love Soul—began welcoming visitors to its Hotel Zeppelin location near the city’s Union Square shopping district on Aug. 30, serving up a casual menu of smash burgers and sides.
Benjamin Malmquist, an area general manager at the hotel, said he was pleased to help contribute to Union Square’s ongoing revitalization efforts.
“It’s exciting to invest in the community and bring positivity to our neighborhood,” Malmquist said. “We look forward to welcoming locals, neighbors, tourists, Union Square shoppers and everyone looking for a delicious, fun place to eat and drink.”
Highlights on the menu include the Mission Smash, a combination of pepper jack cheese, guacamole and poblano aioli that is certain to draw spice lovers. The Korean Smash mixes sharp cheddar cheese, Korean cucumbers and gochujang barbecue glaze. Extra patties will set hungry diners back $4.
“At PLS on Post, we’re bringing guests a really good smash burger, while adding our own San Francisco flavor,” said Chef Thomas Weibull. “The concept leans into the feeling of the classic old-school diner. Patrons can expect remarkable burgers and indulgent, photogenic milkshakes.”
PLS on Post also offers classic highball cocktails with a twist. The cocktails are made with classic fountain drinks like grape soda or root beer and then mixed with select spirits.
Paying homage to its classic rock theme, drink names include Bad Medicine, Riders on the Storm and Black Velvet. One of the signature cocktails, the Ginny Hendrix, uses the base of a gin fizz but adds flair by using grape soda.
Should visitors wish to stay longer, Hotel Zeppelin offers 196 rooms and suites, more than 2,700 square feet of meeting and events space with a game room for bingo or pool.
