Power was restored to thousands of San Franciscans after an outage struck multiple neighborhoods Wednesday morning, according to PG&E.

The power outage began shortly after 8:15 a.m., leaving about 7,046 San Francisco customers without power, PG&E spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian told The Standard.

Neighborhoods that appeared to be affected included the Castro, Twin Peaks, the Mission District and Duboce Triangle. A PG&E text alert said Potrero Hill and parts of SoMa may also be affected.

After an initial estimate that the outage should be fixed by 1:30 p.m., Sarkissian said most of the customers had been restored by 9:30 a.m., with about 2,000 customers still affected as of 10:30 a.m.; by 11:05 a.m., that was down to 565 customers, with full power restoration estimated for 5 p.m. All power was finally restored by 2:53 p.m..

A separate outage centered on Polk and Union streets and affecting about 365 customers began around 10:50 a.m., with an estimated time of restoration of 6:30 p.m. That outage was restored shortly before 3 p.m..

The utility did not share any causes found by assessment crews sent to outage sites while city residents and businesses braced for rounds of storms beginning this week. The first of those storms had already brought delays and cancellations to Bay Area airports on Wednesday, in addition to high surf conditions.
