In a fiery interview with Chinese-language media, Mayor London Breed defended her staff’s close collaboration with San Francisco’s new District Attorney Brooke Jenkins and said the lawyers who “unlawfully” recorded the city’s new chief prosecutor during her first meeting with employees should be disbarred and criminally charged.
“Anyone who is the DA or public defender or any elected position, they are always going to get help and support from this office,” Breed said during the discussion Thursday.
When Chesa Boudin was elected DA, he got help from her office, too, Breed added.
The mayor batted away criticism about Jenkins acting on someone else’s agenda as stemming from “white liberals” who have continued to attack Black female leaders in San Francisco by casting them as “somebody’s puppet or slave.”
Breed also addressed the leaked recording of Jenkins’s first staff meeting, which was reported by multiple media outlets, calling the surreptitious audio “unlawful” and saying whoever captured it should face serious consequences.
“I would say that to any of those people who sadly violated the law,” the mayor said, “and should be brought up on charges and should be disbarred.”
