A slew of retail openings has some buzzing about a resurgence for the beleaguered area — but is it a renaissance or a mirage?

The fact that it’s expanding, rather than shuttering, makes it an anomaly in a retail stretch pockmarked by vacancies. 

Jeffrey Vandergrift, a radio host at San Francisco’s Wild 94.9, is still missing, and there has been no activity on his cell phone or credit cards.
