Live blog: Chinatown celebrates Daniel Lurie as he becomes mayor

He’s volunteering at a charity, touring the Tenderloin, and riding a cable car before taking the reins as San Francisco mayor.

“I was elected to make hard decisions, and it wasn't to make everybody like me,” he says.

Speculation has been building that Daniel Lurie—who might be a centimillionaire—would self-fund his campaign for San Francisco mayor.

Lurie’s campaign argues that he’s in the best position to defeat Breed under the city’s ranked-choice voting system.
