San Francisco has no idea where hundreds of homeless people have gone after giving them bus tickets to leave the city over the past two years.

Some homeless people in San Francisco will soon receive $1,000 every month as part of a new program funded by Google’s nonprofit arm.

To counteract a narrative of widespread mismanagement, a city agency is partnering with nonprofits to flood social media with success stories.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 297 emergency shelter beds sit open, but many are reserved for people exiting jails and medical facilities. 

Over 100 people were waiting in a virtual line for shelter just six days after the city relaunched its waitlist.
