City officials, after reaching a deal with Caltrans, said cleanup crews will prioritize sites that pose health and safety risks.

The California Highway Patrol recommends staying home if possible. 

The first and longest closure runs from 10 p.m. Nov. 9 through 9 a.m. Nov. 11 and will impact on-ramps for Highway 101 and Interstate 80.

The actions follow a U.S. Supreme Court ruling in June that give American cities more power to clear homeless encampments.

Several hundred protesters blocked multiple lanes on Interstate 80 early on Presidents Day, causing traffic disruptions out of San Francisco.
