The night bus: Moving through San Francisco after dark

After a majority of San Francisco has gone to bed, the city’s late-night buses come to life. These buses, known as Owls, service off-peak commuters and those wandering the city in the wee hours of the morning between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The result is a snapshot of who uses the service and a glimpse of San Francisco at night through the eyes of a longtime Muni operator.
