A woman died Saturday morning after her Tesla drove off the road in San Rafael and crashed into a residential swimming pool.

The California Highway Patrol in Marin received a call at 7:26 a.m. about a traffic collision involving a solo vehicle on the portion of Point San Pedro Road that lies east of Highway 101 near the Loch Lomond Marina.

The CHP said a 2019 Tesla was traveling westbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the female driver allowed the Tesla to veer to the right, crash through a fence and into the swimming pool at 44 Bonnie Banks Way.

The driver succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol are a factor in the collision at this time.

The investigation into this accident is ongoing.
