A man was shot Monday night after police opened fire on a Tenderloin street.

A police spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday that officers responded around 10:22 p.m. to Jones Street between Eddy and Ellis streets for a report of a person with a knife threatening others.

Moments after arriving, police shot the suspect.

Paramedics who had been stationed nearby took him to a hospital for life-threatening injuries. His condition was not available Tuesday morning.

Police released no additional details, citing an active investigation, but said the department would hold a press conference at 9 a.m. Tuesday at police headquarters and a town hall offering more information would happen within 10 days.
