Sen. Laphonza Butler, the newly sworn-in California senator, announced Sunday that she has tested positive for Covid.

"After a busy 1st wk on the job, I have tested positive for COVID-19 & am experiencing mild symptoms," the senator said in a post late Sunday morning on X, formerly Twitter.

"Per CDC guidelines I will be isolating while the Senate is in session and working remotely."

Butler was appointed Oct. 1 by California Gov. Gavin Newsom and sworn in as a senator Oct. 3, replacing the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who died late last month at the age of 90.

Other senators have tested positive for the virus in recent weeks, including Sens. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Tina Smith (D-Minn.).
