A group of 10 teenagers reportedly attacked a woman early Wednesday morning at BART's MacArthur Station, according to authorities and BART Police scanner audio.

Officers responded around 12:29 a.m. to the Richmond-bound train and detained one girl who allegedly injured the woman, BART officials said.

Audio from BART Police scanners said 10 teenagers were spotted and that a woman may have sustained head, arm and leg injuries.

The victim, whose injuries were not confirmed by BART officials, chose not to identify the girl who was released by police, officials added.

BART is not the only transit system dealing with the crises of homelessness, crime and drug addiction, but it stands apart in its struggle to get ridership back to pre-pandemic levels.

Concerns around safety on the trains are front of mind for potential BART passengers, according to a survey of riders.

BART has recently launched shorter trains in an effort to better police the transit network, while new fare gates are also in the works.
