A suspect linked to a San Francisco home burglary and robbery case from April involving an 88-year-old Asian woman held at gunpoint was arrested and charged Thursday by law enforcement.

Gustavo Ribeiro-Quintanilha, 20, was arrested last week and appeared at court for arraignment. He remains in custody as the District Attorney’s Office charged him with multiple felonies, including robbery, burglary, elder abuse and false imprisonment.

Two suspects entered the elder victim’s home in the Ingleside neighborhood and “forced her into her bathroom at gunpoint” while they rummaged through her home, according to the police report. They eventually fled.

No further information is available about the other suspect in the case, police said.

The victim’s daughter told KPIX in April that the family was terrified, and the incident scared her mother to the point of crying.

As the Asian American community continues to feel targeted by crimes, San Francisco appears to have a downward trend in burglary incidents after a spike that occurred during the pandemic.

In 2022 to date, over 4,700 burglaries were reported, similar to the same period of 2018 and higher than 2019, but about 20% lower than 2020 and 2021.

The following hearing dates for Ribeiro-Quintanilha are set for Nov. 8 and 17.
