Driver Arrested in DUI Crash That Wounded Muni Driver, Several Pedestrians on Lombard Street

A man accused of ramming into a Muni bus and wounding six people over the weekend was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, SFPD said Tuesday.

Police identified the suspect as a 26-year-old from Utah, but did not immediately confirm his name.

The crash happened around 11 a.m. Saturday at Lombard and Fillmore streets, officials said.

Eric Kingsbury—a pedestrian advocate who witnessed the crash—said it looked like the driver was going well over double the street’s 30 mph limit when he hurtled into the 22-Fillmore bus at the Marina intersection.

One of the victims was a young child, officials said.

Another pedestrian who was struck had so much blood dripping from her face, Kingsbury said, that “it looked like she had red-colored hair.”

The suspect was booked on charges of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, driving without a license, causing bodily injury while driving under the influence, reckless driving, speeding and failure to stop at a traffic signal.
