Felony charges for teen in San Francisco assault on 70-year-old Asian woman

Multiple felony charges have been filed against the 18-year-old accused of assaulting a 70-year-old Asian woman on July 31.

Darryl Moore appeared in court Wednesday for his first hearing in the case, where Judge Marisa Chun assigned him a public defender. 

Moore is locked up in county jail without bail, and is charged with robbery, assault, elder abuse, burglary and other enhancements. No hate crime charges were filed.

The Oakland teenager is believed to be the person pictured wearing a black sweatshirt and camouflage headwear in a viral attack video captured at the housing project of the victim, who has been identified only as Mrs. Ren in media reports. 

Three other juveniles were involved in the attack, aged 11, 13 and 14. The 13-year-old has been arrested while the 11-year-old has been let go. The 14-year-old is still at large.

In the video first reported by ABC7, Ren is beaten, kicked in the head and robbed by the suspects for her iPhone.

Lead prosecutor Phoebe Maffei filed a restraining order that was approved by the judge, demanding Moore keep 150 yards away from Ren and the housing project. 

Maffei is also the prosecutor in the 70-year-old former commissioner Greg Chew’s attack case.

Moore will appear in court again on Thursday for a preliminary hearing.
