A murder suspect has been named after a carjacking and police chase in San Francisco left one person dead and four others injured on Tuesday.

A 58-year-old man was killed in the crash at 16th Street and Potrero Avenue. Three other people—a 57-year-old woman, a 37-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman—sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday, police officers said they responded to the area of Folsom and Mabini streets for a report of a carjacking.

Officers found a stolen city-owned vehicle in the area of Kansas and 25th streets, and a police chase ensued, police said.

The chase ended after a crash at 16th Street and Potrero Avenue. Police detained 57-year-old Carlo Watson at the scene. Watson was taken to San Francisco County Jail and arrested on suspicion of carjacking, murder, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, resisting arrest, evading a police officer causing serious bodily injury or death and driving without a license.

Police on the scene told The Standard the stolen vehicle belonged to the city's Department of Public Works.

The incident involved a white pickup truck and a silver SUV, San Francisco Fire Department officials said.
