The layoffs are coming fast and furious in the Bay Area tech sector, and Amazon is the latest to post a layoff notice affecting hundreds of employees in the area.
On Tuesday, Amazon filed a notice with the state that it is eliminating 263 jobs at its Sunnyvale offices in engineering, design and other functions. On Nov. 4, the company also filed a notice that it is cutting 53 jobs at a facility in Irvine.
The Seattle-based retail giant is planning to lay off approximately 10,000 people in technology and corporate jobs as soon as this week, The New York Times reported on Monday. Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Amazon is only the latest big tech firm to conduct layoffs amid a challenging period for the tech sector.
Last week, Meta announced a mass layoff after hiring thousands of employees during the pandemic. Twitter, following its acquisition by Elon Musk, also let go thousands of employees. Likewise, the payments giant Stripe also announced a large-scale layoff, with its CEO Patrick Collison acknowledging that he had miscalculated the impact of the pandemic.
On Wednesday, local software firm Asana also filed a layoff notice affecting 97 employees at its San Francisco office.
