A young woman was arrested on suspicion of killing a 65-year-old man who was found bleeding out near Golden Gate Park almost a year and a half ago, authorities said.

Just after 6 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2021, police responded to Haight and Shrader streets after a report of a person bleeding on the ground, the San Francisco Police Department said.

Officers found the victim suffering from what appeared to be stab wounds and gave medical aid. His injuries were considered life-threatening and medics transported him to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

San Francisco homicide detectives identified 27-year-old Meredith Dechert as a suspect during their investigation and sought an arrest warrant.  Milpitas police took her into custody and booked her into Santa Clara County Jail on Jan. 20.

Dechert was transported to San Francisco and had an arraignment scheduled for Wednesday, but that hearing was continued to Feb. 6. She is being represented by the San Francisco Public Defender’s Office.
