San Francisco travelers seeking to take in the sights of London will soon have a new route to the UK capital with a Norwegian low-cost airline just announcing new nonstop services.
Norse Atlantic Airways, a new carrier, will provide three direct flights per week between SFO and London-Gatwick starting July 1.
The airline started in 2021 and ran its first flight in 2022. It focuses on affordable fares for long fights between Europe and the United States, with a 15-strong fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners aircraft.
A five-night round-trip flight package from July 1 without a checked bag clocked in at $691.91 on the company’s website when The Standard looked on Tuesday.
The cheapest round-trip flights on the same dates from SFO to London airports cost upward of $1,600 via comparison website Momondo when viewed by The Standard on Tuesday.
San Francisco leaders applauded the new connection.
“I am excited to welcome Norse Atlantic Airways to San Francisco,” Mayor London Breed said. “I am confident this new flight will be beneficial for our recovering Bay Area economies.”
London is the largest international market for SFO, according to Breed. Airport director Ivar Satero also welcomes the airline, which gives Bay Area travelers a new option for booking trips to London and beyond.
