A man was stabbed to death early Sunday in San Francisco’s Mission District, police said.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at 24th and Mission streets around 4 a.m. and found a man suffering from stab wounds. He was rushed to a hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner identified him Monday as Valentin Hernandez Santillan, 42, of San Francisco.

Police said they were still investigating the stabbing and had not made any arrests. San Francisco has had 29 confirmed homicides so far in 2023 through July 16, which is up slightly from last year at the same time.

This is a developing story.
