A man was fatally shot near a bus stop Tuesday afternoon near BART's Lake Merritt Station in Oakland, according to authorities.

Officers responded just after 2:30 p.m. to Oak and Eighth streets, where they found the man fatally shot, a BART spokesperson confirmed.

Shortly after, BART police, using video surveillance, located and arrested a man in connection with the shooting "within 90 minutes of the incident," according to the spokesperson.

"There is no indication that the suspect or victim was a BART rider," BART told The Standard in an email.

The BART station entrance near the shooting remains closed as police investigate the active crime scene, authorities said.

Normal train service has resumed at the station after a delay of approximately half an hour, BART officials said.

Oakland police officers were also at the scene but said they were there to assist BART police in the investigation.
