Outside Lands 2023: SOMA Tent Closes for Second Day in a Row

Outside Lands' pop-up EDM venue shut down for a second consecutive day for the same reason: the floor gave way.

"SOMA Tent is closed until further notice," read an alert posted shortly after 5 p.m. on the festival's official mobile app and social media accounts. "We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve this issue and will provide updates when available."

In an email to The Standard, a festival spokesperson added: "After diligently monitoring the floor throughout Saturday, we decided to close the SOMA Tent for the remainder of the afternoon. We will provide updates when available."

The sudden closure means more performance cancellations after the three-day music-and-arts festival called off four DJ sets in the same venue Friday when the floor buckled under the weight of dancing, jumping attendees.

A member of the festival's safety team said another part of the floor gave way Saturday, forcing it to close for the rest of the evening. Now, the safety team member said, the festival is figuring out how to have Sunday's SOMA Tent acts perform beside instead of inside the venue.

“They will do it,” the safety team staffer said. “They’re just working out how.”

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
