An East Bay triple shooting Friday night left two people dead in the city of Richmond, according to authorities.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter gunshot-detection alert around 7:45 p.m. in the 900 block of 23rd Street near Wendell Avenue and found three victims with apparent gunshot wounds, according to Richmond police.

According to KTVU, the shooting appears to have happened by a strip mall smoke shop.

One victim died on the spot, police added, and the two other victims were taken to a local hospital where one other died.

No arrests have been made and investigators have not released a motive.

According to Richmond crime statistics, the two deaths mark the city's eighth and ninth homicides of 2023.
