A man was shot and killed at a San Francisco intersection early Saturday, police said.

In a statement issued Sunday, police said officers responded just before 2 a.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting at 18th and Mission streets to find a man who had suffered gunshot wounds. Following lifesaving efforts by paramedics, he was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police said no arrests had been made, and the man’s identity was not available Sunday pending the San Francisco medical examiner’s notification of next-of-kin.

The killing is the 41st homicide under investigation by San Francisco police this year, compared to 40 homicides in the city at the same time last year.
