A body was found early Sunday in a parking lot at San Francisco's Crissy Field.

Emergency dispatchers received a call about a person in the parking lot at 1199 East Beach St. shortly after 6:30 a.m., a spokesperson for the San Francisco Fire Department said.

U.S. Park Police officers and firefighters responded to the parking lot, and the person was declared dead.

Police said no other specific information was available for public release and the FBI was leading the investigation because it is in an area of exclusive federal jurisdiction.

A spokesperson for the FBI said the public will be given an update after the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirms the deceased's identity and notifies the next of kin.

The medical examiner did not answer a request for comment.

According to a post on the Citizen social media platform, firefighters said the body was male and appeared to have signs of trauma.
