Police have arrested a man suspected of stabbing two people—one fatally—in San Francisco's SoMa neighborhood last month, authorities announced Tuesday.

Dennis Duree, 39, of San Francisco, was taken into custody on Thursday morning after officers patrolling in the area of Eighth and Mission streets recognized him from an outstanding warrant. Duree is accused of fatally stabbing 45-year-old Brandon Mitchell and severely injuring a 38-year-old woman.

Officers originally responded to reports of a stabbing near Mission and Washburn streets in the early morning of Dec. 28 and found the two victims suffering from apparent stab wounds. Mitchell was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Duree was booked on a warrant for homicide, attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.

The investigation into the attack is ongoing, police said.
