San Francisco's Department of Building Inspection is investigating bedrooms installed at Twitter's headquarters at the behest of CEO Elon Musk.

City officials are asking anyone with information or photos to contact them via SF's customer service email. A complaint about the bedrooms was filed using the city’s 311 service.

"We investigate all complaints," said department spokesperson Patrick Hannan. "We need to make sure the building is being used as intended. There are different building code requirements for residential buildings, including those being used for short-term stays."

The department says building codes are in place to make sure people are using spaces safely.

"Everyone in San Francisco deserves a safe place to live, work, play and sleep, and no one is above the law," Hannan said.

The investigation is being carried out in coordination with the SF Planning Department.

Hannan added, "We are reaching out to building representatives so we can conduct a site inspection as part of our investigation. If we find Suite 900 no longer meets the building code, we’ll issue a notice of violation, which will be posted to our website and at the site, just like all notices of violation."

The department expects to initiate its investigation into Suite 900 in 1355 Market St. within 72 hours.

Twitter has been contacted for comment.
