A San Francisco desk clerk was shot multiple times by thieves who were breaking into his car, according to building management and police.

The incident happened at Casa Adelante, an affordable housing complex at 1296 Shotwell St. in the Mission District, at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, police and the building's management said.

Gen Fujioka, legal counsel for Chinatown Community Development Center, which co-owns and co-developed the housing site, said the victim was working as a temporary front desk clerk and was not a security guard as police first stated.

The man was released from the hospital earlier Wednesday, Fujioka said.

"We're hoping he has a speedy recovery," Fujioka said.

Further information about the man's identity or the extent of his injuries was not available.

Fujioka, whose organization provides property management services for the housing project, said it is working with San Francisco police to uncover evidence to assist in the investigation but did not know if there were cameras on the property facing Shotwell Street.

Police said the victim saw suspects breaking into his car and confronted them before the suspects shot him multiple times and fled the scene.

The 52-year-old victim is said to have non-life-threatening injuries.

San Francisco police said no arrests have been made at this time.

Editor's Note: Police initially stated that the victim was a security guard; however, information from building management later said the victim was in fact a temporary overnight desk clerk.
