In a show of gratitude, a House of Representatives committee anointed Nancy Pelosi "Speaker Emerita" as she finishes out her fourth and final term as House Speaker.

The House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee unanimously voted to grant Pelosi the title on Monday.

Calling Pelosi the "most consequential Speaker in American history," House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries said that the honorific "reflects Speaker Pelosi’s lifetime of service as a legendary legislator, notorious negotiator and a fabulous facilitator."

Jeffries, who represents parts of Brooklyn and Queens in the House, is expected to replace Pelosi as leader of the House Democrats.

House Democrats, who will be the minority party in the House come January, are scheduled to meet on Wednesday to vote on a fresh leadership slate.

In addition to Jeffries, Katherine Clark of Massachusetts is seeking the powerful whip position. Pete Aguilar, who represents San Bernardino, is making a bid to replace Jeffries as caucus chairman.

Soon after announcing that she won't seek another term as House leader, Pelosi endorsed the trio to lead the Democratic caucus.
