Residents trying to adhere to a well-intentioned rule mandating new sprinklers in old buildings are staring down its unintended consequences.

The blaze broke out in a unit with “hoarder conditions,” officials said. 

Two firefighters were hospitalized after falling through floors in a Chestnut Street building. A third suffered a minor injury.

Officers responded Wednesday to a call for medical aid on Monterey Boulevard in Westwood Highlands.

Videos show riders coughing and covering their faces. Service resumed later Friday night.
