Two SF Muni trains crash. Five taken to hospital

Update: N trains no longer delayed, but residual delays are expected.

Two Muni light rail vehicles have been involved in a crash, with five people taken to hospital in stable conditions, SF Fire Department officials said.

The rear and front of two separate trains came into contact with each other on the inbound line, resulting in damage to both trains and minor injuries to seven individuals, officials say.

Firefighters responded to a 1:42 p.m. call to The Embarcadero and Brannan Street Wednesday. They arrived on scene at 1:47 p.m. Five ambulances were used after the crash to help patients.

There are a total of seven victims, the two patients who have not been transported to hospital have pain complaints and minor injuries, SFFD spokesperson Captain Jonathan Baxter said.

The trains involved were inbound trains.

SF Firefighters Local 798 is reporting heavy damage to train cars.

San Francisco Police Department and the SF Municipal Transportation Agency are now investigating the incident. They have been contacted for comment.
