Controversial Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene tweeted a homophobic slur at California state Sen. Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco).
The Republican representative who has previously aligned herself closely with former President Donald Trump called Sen. Wiener a "communist groomer."
Greene retweeted the below message from the state senator, writing: "Pass my Protect Children’s Innocence Act to stop communist groomers like this from using state government power to take children away from their parents to allow a for-profit medical industry to chop off these confused children’s genitals before they are even old enough to vote."
Wiener wrote the Sunday tweet after the shooting at queer nightclub Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado, that killed five and injured 18.
The Protect Children’s Innocence Act would make it a federal felony, punishable by up to 25 years in prison, for doctors to prescribe puberty blockers or testosterones therapy to minors.
Wiener is often subjected to threats of violence and receives homophobic abuse online—as recently as September a man was found guilty for charges related to threatening him.
Greene's office was contacted for comment.
