A woman crashed her car into a San Jose middle school Thursday morning, igniting it close to where hazardous pool chemicals were stored, according to police.

Officers responded around 8:35 a.m. to Ohlone Middle School at North Second and East Hedding streets where they say a woman smashed her Subaru into the school's pool chemical storage area and had to be rescued from the fiery vehicle, a San Jose police spokesperson confirmed.

San Jose firefighters also arrived at the scene and helped put out the fire while a hazmat unit secured the chemicals, authorities added.

The woman was taken to a local hospital in an unknown condition, according to police.

Although the cause of the crash is still under investigation, police say the woman is cooperating with authorities.
