A man was shot and killed Friday evening in the Tenderloin, according to police.

Officers responded at 6:11 p.m. to Golden Gate Avenue near Hyde Street and found a man with an apparent gunshot wound, San Francisco police confirmed to The Standard.

Although officers rendered medical aid, the man was pronounced dead on the spot.

Witnesses told investigators that a suspect fled the scene, SFPD added, but that no one was able to identify the person.

At the scene of the crime, yellow police tape blocked the sidewalk outside the University of California Law, San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings), where several officers and investigators declined to share any details about what happened.

The Friday evening homicide marks the Tenderloin's fourth to date in 2023, according to police data. By this time last year, the department tallied six killings in the neighborhood.

SFPD urges anyone with information on the shooting to call its anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444.

Correction: This story has been updated to reflect that the shooting took place outside of UC Law San Francisco.
